Laser cutting into Hard ground...will it work?

So part of my investigation is to see how I can speed up the process of Intaglio Printing.If i can pull this off I should be able to make a generic Border for my major project studies.

I idea is that the laser will cut through the hard ground exposing the Zinc plate ready for the acid bath, taking away the long process of repetitive template drawing.
